Holey Moley Marathon Pop-ups

Hey now, it’s been some time since I was over here. But I bet you stopped by more than I have (thanx for stoppin’ by too). Real life has been very busy and my art playtime was nipped in the bud for awhile because of it. I got so behind on projects.

Remember the Japanese Moleskine RR swap I posted about some months back?....That was one of the projects I got behind on. It was suppose to be one book at a time, but I wound up with three! Ahhhh! So what did I do, I had a Moley Marathon is what I did. Got 'em all done within a week! These Moley’s were a huge challenge, and the results were very satisfying. Experimented with lots of different things and am happy with all the results.

My first ever Pop-Ups! What a magical experience that was. Loved pop-up books as a kid. Always wanted to try my hand at making one. Hah! Made three instead! This is totally my “new thing” now...Spent some time (hours) searching the web based on the ideas in my head. Once I found what I wanted, (got the house from here) each theme slowly came to life. It took some time, lots of tries (resizing-n-stuff) then finding the right papers to get the “fit” just right.

For the backgrounds I used gesso, then added subtle textures (you can’t see them on the pics) with netting, bubble wrap, and ribbon. Applied Alcohol and Distress Inks by spraying, blowing and rubbing and smooshing on. While wet, added ultra fine pixie dust then sprayed gel medium (diluted with water in a spray bottle) over it so the pixie dust wouldn't come off.

Got out some rubber stamps and played with those (geez, it’s been a while...that felt good). The Mermaid was stamped on acetate and painted with PITT Artist pens while the Geisha was stamped on Epson matte Presentation paper and colored with Marvy Brush and PITT markers. The colors really popped! Collaged papers and other embellishments were used.

Got ‘em mailed off on time too...and now on to the next late art project. Will post more later.
